Cant install .htaccess files

hello, when im installing zen cart, for some reason it doesnt copy across the .htaccess files. It comes up with child transfer failed.
Im using cuteftp.
are these files important?

Yes they are important and should be uploaded.

You could try changing the file name to remove the period in front. Then add it back after uploading. Make sure your FTP program is set to show you hidden file (which is any file starting with a period) else you won't see it once you change it.

Some Hosts prevent the use of .htaccess - Yahoo is one of them
