I can't downlload and unzip zc???

Hi

I am following the instructions in the manual and have found loads of help on here but I am now stuck. I am trying to download zc on my computer, it gets about 2/3rds of the way through unziping and windows explorer stops working and restarts inself so i have to start again. Has anyone got any idea what i am doing wrong? I have never done any technical computer stuff but have managed to get through what seemed much trickier things only to get stuck on somthing i thought should be easy!???

Myself, I don't think this would be a Zen-Cart issue at all. I would suggest that you clean out all your temp files, cookies, and such. Then defrag your computer, restart when it's done, then try again.

i have never had trouble unzipping before so assumed it would be to do with the programe i was unzipping. will try other ideas, If i can work out how to defrag that is . getting close to admitting defeat

Just out of curiosity, do you know where the download was (what file?) when it stopped?

Sorry Tina I can't tell, looking at the files compared to the screenshot in the book its looks like its all there. I am wondering if its because i'm on vista, would this be a problem? I am downloading the version stated in the manual?

As i said in my original post, i am a complete novice so please be patient :) I have zen cart already instaled on a remonte server, do i actually NEED it on my pc?? i was following the book step by step to ensure i got it right, i am now concerned i am making extra work for myself....

You want to be downloading the very latest version of Zen Cart, regardless of what the manual says. It will still work fine, and the book support site should have information on anything that will be different for you.

In the long run, you will be saving yourself headaches by having a local test site.

No. You can ignore that part of the book. If you have the latest version of Zencart installed on a remote server, that's good enough.

If you installed the remote installation through Fantastico, it may not be current.

As you can see, gjh42 and I disagree about this, but, other than the fact that changes to your site can be seen more quickly (no FTP time), I don't see any advantage at all to installing a copy on your local machine.

As i have now tried to instal the latest version with the same issue, i think i have no choice!!! not sure its the latest version i've installed, will have to check.

It is the most recent version so thats good. I am now totally lost though as i have zen cart on my remote host and have spent the day setting up xampp etc on my pc, i don't know how to deal with this.
