    help question Edit subcategory font in sidebox

    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/images/smilies/wacko.gif

    I am currently setting up an online store locally on my PC with Zen-Cart 1.3.8 and would like to be able to edit the font style in my subcategory menu. I am not using any mods or modules and just want the top level category menu displayed in bold and the subcategory menu's to display in normal font. I have searched the forums for this only to find references to '<span class="category-subs-parent">' and the likes but can't find anything like this in my stylesheets anywhere. Can anyone help me with this, Please????

    You should install Firefox Browser, then get various ADDONS for it, such as Chris Pederick's Developer Toolkit. There are many others and you may like to consider stuff like colorzilla too.

    These tools help you analyse web pages - their structure, composition, styling and much more.

    By using these FF Browser tools, I am able to discover in an instant that the CSS I need to affect Category Box styles is probably located under this heading in the stylesheet:-

    /* categories box parent and child categories */

    Thank you for your prompt reply, but I am using Firefox browser with the Web Developer plugin installed and when I'm browsing my website I click on edit CSS then search through my stylesheets for the entry '/* categories box parent and child categories */'
    but don't it listed in my stylesheets anywhere.

    Thanks again

    Are you using a CUSTOM or a STANDARD template?

    In FireFox, (with the Dev Tookit menu bar showing) click the INFORMATION menu tab, then choose "Display ID and Class details".

    This will show you what style classes and ID's are allocated to each element on the page. In this way you can see which styles apply to the categories elements.

    Very good, I have that info now thanks. And the class associated with my subcategory menu is 'category-products'. I still cant find it in my style sheets.

    I would like to change the main category menu to bold font and leave the subcategory fonts as normal and change it to another colour
    Like this:

    Electronic Gadgets

    I tried putting in the following code into my stylesheet but it made no difference to the main category font displayed:

    SPAN.category-top {
    font-weight: bold;
    }

    Any suggestions please, as to what i should add to my stylesheet because I'm not familiar with CSS with this being my first ever website project.

    Sorry folks, i just noticed i gave the incorrect URL in a previous post

    My site URL:

    http://www.gadgetfactoryonline.com/store/

    And i'm looking to find out what code i need to enter in my stylesheet to allow me to apply seperate individual font styles to both the main category and sub category fonts, in my categories sidebox.

    eg.

    Main Category
    . Sub Category

    For starters, you have:-

    stylesheet.css

    and

    stylesheet_new.css

    in your css folder. Decide which one you want to use, call it stylesheet.css, and get rid of the "duplicate" - even though it's called stylesheet_new.css

    Ok i have combined the code from both stylesheets to create one stylesheet because both contained styles relevant to my store, and now have one stylesheet.
    stylesheet.css
    Not sure farestcape if that was the correct thing to do but my site still displays OK. If so can you please advise me on my next move to make individual font style change to main and sub categories in my category sidebox. Thanks, i appreciate all the help a lot
