    help question Upper most page elements not flush to the top

    My question concerns modification of a Apple Zen template although I doubt it has anything to do with the template itself. Since there seems to be very little movement in the Apple Zen thread I'm posting here for a wider audience.

    Take a look at the very top of the of the original Apple Zen Template, where the Home, Login and Seach apparatus are. Now take a look at the same area in my modified Apple Zen. See how the page elements are not quite tight to the top? Obviously I made some mistake along the way but now have no idea what it might have been. I've looked at the id & class info in FF web developer to try and track down the issue and help jog my memory as to items I've touched but haven't yet had any suceess.

    Any ideas?? Thanks!

    I am either missing what you are describing or not looking at it with the same tools you are..

    I looked in IE6, FF & Chrome.

    Hey Kobra - Hopefully I'll be able to make things a bit clearer: This image shows the very top of the page of the original Apple Zen site and beneath it the same section of my modified Apple site. Compare the upper most section of each, where it says >>>This upper most section<<< . The Apple Zen elements are all on the same horizontal line. Those same elements on my site are off-center horizontally; The search box and the search button are off-kilter from the Home & Login links and from each other.

    You can add some padding-top to this to move the Home and Login down:

    #navMainLinks {
    float:left;
    position:relative;
    list-style-type:none;
    text-align:left;
    font-size:1.2em;
    }

    and there are 4 #navMainSearch elements you'll have to fiddle with to get everything lined up.

    Good call! That padding-top: used in percentages of centimeters works well. Thanks!

    Update: Jade pointed out that the reason those upper most elements were out of alignment was because the search button that I used to replace his original was 4 points taller in height. Nonetheless I was able to glean some useful information by posting...
