Default Not adding shipping costs on multiple items

My apologies if the answer is already here somewhere - I cant seem to find it.

I'm using zones shipping because we ship globally.
I have a problem that occurs when someone orders two or more of one product. Only one shipping cost is applied.
So - if product1 has a weight of 1 which = $5 shipping to zone1 and the customer orders 3 of them he still only gets charged $5 shipping instead of $15.

Is there something I need to enable somewhere?

    Hi,

i shall attempt to answer this, but might need some more information; like
    is this a new install?
has it ever worked? have you change something?
if look in ADMIN under MODULES-> SHIPPING what are your settings? It looks like you've got "FLAT RATE " active. ie you charge a flat fee for posting irrespective of quantity.
What you want is ship by weight
You need to turn off FLAT RATE.
    Turn on SHIPBY WEIGHT.
There are a few settings in CONFIGURATION->SHIPPING.

Can you also let us know what your settings are there.

This is a fairly new install - only been running for a few months - so very few orders have been placed yet.
Single item orders are being sold with correct freight but multiple items are only attracting one freight charge,
I only have Store Pickup and Zone Rates enabled in Shipping modules.
There is no Ship-by-weight module in there - I will see if I can find one somewhere.

    Shipping/Packaging

    Country of Origin New Zealand
    Postal Code 4110
Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship 50
Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight 0
    Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight 0
Display Number of Boxes and Weight Status 3
Order Free Shipping 0 Weight Status 0
Shipping Estimator Display Settings for Shopping Cart 1
Display Order Comments on Admin Invoice 1
Display Order Comments on Admin Packing Slip 1

    Hi, - in MODULES->SHIPPING
FLAT RATE is NOT enabled. (its red )
There is NO SHIP BY WEIGHT module.
Only ZONE RATES and STORE PICKUP modules are enabled (green)

Is the SHIP BY WEIGHT module standard with Zen Cart - or do I need to download it somewhere as I dont have it.

    cheers

NOTE: Zones is not a Per Item charge for weight ... it is based on the Total weight of the order and then applies the amount set ...

This sounds like you are trying to say

When the weight is 1 and 3 are ordered use the 1lb rate 3 times ...

When the weight is 5 and 4 are ordered use the 5lb rate 4 times ...

That is not how Zones Rate zone shipping module works ...

Can you post your current settings on the Zones Rate shipping module for a couple of your Zones so we can have a look and a think on this for a few ...

A couple or three products_id and what rate you want to see when qty 1 and qty 3 are purchased would also help ...

    I think I've found it.
The module you are referring to is called Per Unit (perweightunit)
Enabling that seems to work - it makes the cart add one shipping charge per unit (product ) as well as changing shipping prices for different zones.

    thanks!

    Very good ...

    Couple of rules ...

Per Unit perweightunit is going to utilize the Product Weight products_weight as if this were a shipping charge per item ...

This means that the settings in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... need altering as adding a Tare of 3:0 instead of adding 3lbs would add $3.00 ...

Having a Maximum Weight of 50 would mean, Maximum Shipping of $50.00 and then everything goobers up ... so set to something higher like 5000 ...

Now, for the various Zones ...

You can clone the Per Unit perweightunit to as many clones needed for the Zones and then you can alter the rate based on a percentage where, for example the US uses the 1.00 meaning 1 = $1.00 ...

You can then make one for Canada using 1.10 meaning 1 = $1.10

Now things will multiple out correctly ...
