Install Error: MySQL Support is turned off in PHP

I am attempting to install ZenCart onto a website for a client of ours, this is my very first time installing a shopping cart or working with ZenCart.

I have run into an error where the ZenCart installer says to me that MySQL Support is turned off in PHP. I am not sure what to do to correct this issue, or if it's something I could just ignore and still be able to properly install ZenCart.

In addition to this, would there be any other little tidbits that would be helpful for my installing ZenCart?

Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. There is a bit of a rush on this project, so prompt help would be even more appreciated.

Just as a small bit of extra info, the client's website is being hosted on our server, so we manage everything directly. We don't have any web-hosting "control panel" type of set up.

Also, we have reinstalled PHP with the SQL extension included, but this did not help us solve the problem any.

May not help - just stumbled on this while searching for my own problem -

I'm setting up on my server too. I've been fussing with PHP installations - specifying different extensions. The latest PHP makes this very easy - no files to find, just specify what you want and the installer extracts the right stuff.

At one point, I believe it got confused - I deleted all PHP installs and reinstalled and it cleaned it up.

Maybe dumb Q but - did you restart the server after changing the PHP config?
