Default Changing "Have You Got Yours" on main page

I am about to go crazy! I can't remove or change the Zen Cart ad "Have You Got Yours" on the main page. I used the admin, text eeditor, define main page and the change shows up there but does not show on the site's home page. I believe I have permissions set properly. Any other suggestions before I pull out what little hair remains? Help would be greatly appreciated by this dumb newbie. Thanks.

You need to copy includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_main_page.php to includes/languages/english/html_includes/YOUR_TEMPLATE/define_main_page.php and edit it.

You're doing it right. define_main_page.php is the proper file.

Still may be a permissions problem.

Have you set up your CUSTOM template?

Have you tried any other changes, and did they work?

I have been able to change the header and index messgages successfully. It is the main page that is a problem.

Since I could not make it work with zencart/admin and tools, I down loaded includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_main_page.php to my computer and used NotePad to change the text and then uploaded it to includes/languages/english/html_includes/Classic and to MY_TEMPLATE as well. I have not been able to get MY_TEMPLATE working and still use Classic for now. When I view the files they show the changes, but on the site I still have the original Zen Cart ad. A permissions problem sounds likely but what folders should be rechecked as I think they are all okay

All the files in the /classic folders will be overwritten with the next upgrade/update.

It would be helpful if you can post a link to your site.

I understand they would be overwritten, but I don't understand why the files are changed and they don't show up on the main page.

It looks like it's picking up the content from includes/languages/english/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php

Mary Ellen, that file also shows image/large/e-start-book.gif before the quotes for the text, and this gif is what I believe is showing on the center of the main page. I am guessing that this gif is some sort of default that is being placed there. This would explain why changing the text via the text editor isn't working. Does this make any sense?

Mary Ellen, I also see that the gif has a hyperlink attached to it which links to

I would like to remove this as well. Thanks.

This is the content of includes/languages/english/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php. Please note the line I've highlighted in red. This is where the image and link is coming from. If you create your own custom template, this line should disappear.

    Code:
<a href="http://www.lulu.com/content/466605"><img src="images/large/e-start-book.gif" alt="get your manual today" title="Have you got yours yet? Join the 1000’s of Zen Cart users that have bought the only comprehensive owners manual !" /></a>
<p>This content is located in the file at: <code> /languages/english/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php</code></p>
<p>You can quickly edit this content via Admin->Tools->Define Pages Editor, and select define_main_page from the pulldown.</p>
    <p><strong>NOTE: Always backup the files in<code> /languages/english/html_includes/your_template</code></strong></p>
You can use admin>tools>developers toolkit to find items like this.
