usps shipping does not work today Dec 8

Suddenly today the site will not correctly verify addresses (including my store return address) that are known to be good. Is anyone else having problems with this?

The click'nship module is working fine, this is a problem on the USPS side.

I'm having trouble too. This is the message that my zencart is showing during checkout:
We are unable to find a USPS shipping quote suitable for your mailing address and the shipping methods we typically use.
If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact us for assistance.
(Please check that your Zip Code is entered correctly.)

It happens with every zip code I've tried.

There is a big lag when checking out which goes away when usps is turned off.

With usps turned on--At the end of a long lag there is a message about a failure to get usps rates.

Obviously there is an issue at the moment. Anyone know an answer besides waiting?

USPS System wide crash 2.5 weeks before christmas??? Unbelievable.

For now I have enabled free shipping rather than risk losing customers. But there is still a long ttime out session while it tries to look up the zip code. I'm disabling USPS altogether until they get this matter fixed.

Shipping rates started again. This may be an issue to keep an eye on today though

I am also seeing a problem with the USPS shipping rates. It seems to me that the USPS server is down. If I try to ping production.shippingapis.com (the USPS shipping api server), I get no response. Is anyone getting any response from the USPS apis?

Well, thank goodness it's not just me! I switched servers recently and I thought it was something to do with that.. I was going nuts trying to figure out what was going on! Grr.

Its really intermittent. It mostly is failing to work.

Usps gave us a similar gift last Christmas by changing their api without notice.
