Instant Coupon

I was wondering if there is a way to provide an instant coupon for new customers? I have a $10 coupon code that is in the welcome email, however, I feel customers are naving away from the site and not returning even with the coupon in their email. I was thinking of posting the coupon code it the confirmation page after sign up. That way, the customer could continue shopping and use the code without leaving the site. Does anyone have a better idea or see an issue with this idea?

You could set a session variable good for the current session that when a new account is created would show until the session expires ...

Or, you could make a coupon good until the customer has placed first order that dispays on the site ...

There are a lot of options here depending on how you want this to work ...

Thank you for a very quick reply.
I have a coupon that is set to 1 use per customer, however to get the coupon code, the customer has to return to his/her email and retrieve it. Is there a way to instantly display the code or auto fill the coupon code box at checkout for that particular customer or session?

You would either need to make a customization to display that code when you have the customer create the account ...

Or, to encourage the create account ... just add it in the header to always show as it is only good for 1 use per customer ...

Then, the email would be a reminder on it but they would see the coupon code as soon as they come to your site and you might get more sign-ups that way ...
