    Default Unable to update database.

I have a working Zen Cart (version 1.3.7).
Godaddy (shared linux) and SSL work fine.

I am planning to create a new store using Zen Cart 1.3.8.a. It appears that after the new 1.3.8a install, the database cannot be updated at all.

    So...

    1) install zen cart 1.3.8.a. No issue. There are some warning about PHP API mode being cgi, but I don't think this is the issue.
Mysql version is 5.0. and this is a new (empty) database.

    2) after the installation, I renamed the zc_install, and mark both configure.php to read only.

    Symptoms:

    a) Try to add an item to the cart, and it always leaves the shopping cart empty after I add an item to the cart.

    b) Try to update any field in the admin page, the field will then be set to NULL (empty).

My guess is that there could be something related to the database I forgot to set. I have tried more than 3 new 1.3.8.a new installation with different godaddy's database servers, and they always ended up with the same problem.

Does anyone have any tips/hints ?

    Regards,
    Tukang.

FYI. It is a manual zen cart 1.3.8.a install. I am not using godaddy's zen cart automatic install.

I think I found the problem and (hopefully) the correct solution.

What happened is that I SSL-ed the whole website using rewrite in the .htaccess. That means everything is encrypted even for those you only view the website.
It worked fine with Zen Cart 1.3.7. Apparently it doesn't work with Zen Cart 1.3.8.a.

So the fix I made is to disable the automatic rewrite in the .htaccess under the new installation 1.3.8.a. directory. Therefore, the website is not encrypted when people are viewing. However, the user login and admin login are encrypted. It is automatically redirected to https:// by zen cart.

    Regards,
    Tukang.

    hi tukanglibas,

I have the exact same problem using 1.3.8a. I can't update my database at all when in live site.

How do you exactly modify the .htaccess file?

    Please share your solution.

    Thank you.
