Disabling prices on the front page

We have a vendor imposing a "no prices on the front page" policy with respect to our internet sales. This is an issue in two places -

The index/new listing is on the front page, the others are turned off. I tried setting "display product price" to zero in config -> new listing, but that doesn't seem to affect the index page centerbox.

We're using the specials sidebox, and I can't find any settings related to how those products display, beyond the ability to change/disable the %off or $off line.

Is there a way to change these things, or do I need to come up with different front page content?

If there really are no admin switches to control this just for the home page, then you can use a page-specific stylesheet. You can read all about this in the readme file in the default css folder. But here's the beef...

Create a new file called index_home.css. In it put just the definitions needed to make the prices disappear. I'm not sure what the divs are called where the prices are, but you can find out using the Web Developer tools (or Firebug) in Firefox. Let's say they're called product_price. Then you'd put this in that new stylesheet...

.product_price { display: none; }
