Default Development server suddenly slow XAMPP

This is a database problem happening on my local server.
The dev. computer is an XP SP3 32-bit system.
The server is the latest version of Xampp.
All of a sudden the server is terribly slow and I cannot develop at that pace.
Tried everything hardware-wise and there is nothing there, everything works fine.
Since this is a local server, connection, spyware, etc. are not an issue.
It takes an eternity to display pages, both on the front-end and the back-end.
I got an error of maximum execution time in line 23 of admin/includes/extra_datafiles/backup_mysql.php.
    That line only reads:
    define('FILENAME_BACKUP_MYSQL', 'backup_mysql');
In Admin/Store Manager tried emptying admin activity log and optimizing database to no avail.
    Please help.

THIS MAY BE A FIREFOX ERROR.
I had a tab open to a website I need to look at, and apparently that was slowing it down.
When opening only the local server it is back to speed.
Shouldn't work like that, there is 1GB of memory in the computer.
Not a huge deal, but enough.

Running win + XAMP + Browser + ??? - - 1GB is stretching it as XP alone running win apps is much happier with 2GB+ of RAM

    Thanks for answers.
Yeah, I do know that more memory is always better, I just thought it would be enough.
There was no ???, it was only XP + xampp + FF.

You can check your task manager and manually total up processes
XP & supporting functions about 200MB, FF takes about 200MB for me and I do not have XAMP to check

    Thanks for tip.
Yes, I am planning to put more memory on my dev. computers, but I am on the cheap now.

After some more research found out that memory was not the problem, although everything would work better with more of it.
    XAMPP was actually crashed.
I had ran an aggressive disk cleanup, and it deleted some .tmp and 0 byte files that XAMPP actually needs.
After restoring those, I got it back up.
