List shipping costs in shopping cart?

Is there a way to list shipping costs in the actual shopping cart?

At the moment, I have my shopping cart followed by a separate "Estimated Shipping Costs". But because I only sell one kind of item and I only sell to the UK (i.e. I have one shipping cost for all items), the Estimated shipping costs block can only serve to confuse my customers.

I was wondering about the same thing. I made a few changes to the code for the shopping cart and I think it looks much better now.



Currently I only have it working with the flat-rate shipping method, and it also relies on the store having just one currency.

Hi Simon. I have nearly finished coding the mod to do this. I now have it working with all currencies and with most of the major shipping modules. The only shipping modules it is not compatible with are ones such as USPS that calculate shipping on the fly according to the address. The mod works best when using only one shipping module although it can work with several modules (the cheapest rate is shown). It still needs some more testing and refinement before being released, but it's not far off.

I'm wondering if you guys are missing the obvious?

logon as admin, go to /configuration/shipping and packaging, select the
"Shipping Estimator Display Settings for Shopping Cart" and change the default setting from "1" to "2".

This will work for all shipping methods.

It's not exactly what steven300 has done, but I'm sure it is a much simpler solution for a similar result.

I agree it's simpler but let's say you deliver to only one country and you use the flat-rate shipping module, a section titled "Estimate Shipping Costs" with an address form people are going to complete for no reason, and then subtitled "Available Shipping Methods" when there's only one method being used, just isn't needed. It can only waste the customer's time and confuse them. If there's no "estimating" to be done, why display the estimator?

Steven300, thanks for your response. It's great to hear you'll be putting this together as a mod - ('bated breath'). Hopefully others will be as interested.

I'm still working my way to a releasable website, difficult as it's my first time, tend towards the 'perfect', don't always know what I want to achieve and have still to choose between PP Express and Standard. Not long now though.

Keep it simple as my wife says (I can always fine tune later!)

These forums are a godsend and thanks to all who put time in to post.

Works like a dream. Slight hiccup caused by my not following instructions to the letter and I have yet to check the n/a shipping facility.

I'll give more feedback as necessary.
