My client wants a shipping module that tells her customers that shipping costs are to be advised. She is unable to know the shipping/postage cost of items until taken to her local post office. She will inform her customers of the shipping/postage cost by a second email once she knows the cost.

She has tried uninstalling shipping modules but customers cannot proceed to checkout.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Customize the Flat Rate flat shipping module so that the language file in your overrides reads something like:
Will Call you with the shipping bill

NOTE: UPS and USPS are real time quotes from UPS and USPS based on order weight if those are of help to you on getting shipping costs when the order is made ...

I would like the same functionality - I am shipping from Canada where rates differ according to weight AND package dimensions. I am still setting up my cart and I don't really understand what you mean by modifying the language file. Where is this located? Can I just put that message in the "shipping cost" box instead of a price?

No you need to customize the language files and possibly the code to alter the display ...

The language file for Flat Rate flat is in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/flat.php

you would copy that to your templates and overrides directory in:
/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/your_template_dir/flat.php

and customize how it reads on the define statements ...

Also have you looked at the Free Software Add Ons for:
Canada Post Shipping Module

That manages dimensions if I am not mistaken ...

Thank you both. I have amended the shipping options to show that the customer will receive an e-mail with shipping costs. Once my web business grows, I may make use of the Canadian shipping module. Thanks again!
