WAMP databse connection error

Can somoene please guide me to teh right direction

i have installed WAMP

services are sucessfully running

the problem i am having is:

I have put my site in the www/zencart folder

i have changed my database connection strings to

define('DB_TYPE', 'mysql');
define('DB_PREFIX', '');
define('DB_SERVER', 'localhost');
define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', 'root');
define('DB_SERVER_PASSWORD', 'zencart');
define('DB_DATABASE', 'zencart');
define('USE_PCONNECT', 'false'); // use persistent connections?
define('STORE_SESSIONS', 'db'); // use 'db' for best support, or '' for file-based storage

this is both in the
admin/includes & includes configure.php files

the error i am getting is

There seems to be a problem connecting to our database. Please give us a few minutes to remedy the problem. Thank you.

the databse has been assinged users with root and zencart usernaem and password

sorry to sound so dumb but can some1 help me out please

How come you're editing the configure files? Have you run the Zen Cart Installer?

yes i am following the guide and have tried it with the zen cart installer however the demo site then runs?

So you ran the Installer, it worked, but there were demo products on your site? I guess you're now trying to re-install Zen Cart so you can choose the option during the Installer to not install the demo products? If that's right, can you explain the steps you took to try to re-install? I'm still not sure I understand why you're editing the configure files or whether the database connection error occurred before or after you edited them.

ok to put it simpler

i am running my site on 1.37

so to run my site locally on my machine what is the best way of doing this

do i install the 1.37 first then copy my site files over?
