Default PayPal Payments Pro and PCI Compliance Help

PayPal's website for Payments Pro states that you need to be PCI compliant to use Payments Pro. But since Payments Pro stores the CC data on PayPal's server (thankfully), what else do I need to do other than have a 128-bit SSL? (and the things in their manual -- privacy policy, about us, return policy)?

Everyone seems to be making a big deal about PCI Compliance (and rightfully so), but when you signup, does paypal verfiy your PCI Compliance, or are you on your own?

I really don't feel like getting put out of business with a massive fine because my return policy isn't "good enough".

    Thanks

I also want to know about this. This is a great question.

You should be asking PayPal what their official position is in relation to your questions. Anything else is speculation.

I'm also considering PayPal Pro but I don't see the need for all the trouble and expenses of PCI compliance seen as no cc data is stored. If anyone gets an answer about this from PayPal, please post here.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Thanks Kim, I understand now. The "collecting and transmitting" of cc data requires PCI compliance, not just "storing".

I was investigating this subject and I found the following summary after much searching so I though I would share.

    Paypal

    Managing PCI compliance

*Paypal manages PCI compliance validation for the following products (you must comply with the standard, but don't have to get certified):

    -- Website Payment Pro
    -- Virtual Terminal

    * You must arrange for PCI compliance validation for these products:

    -- Payflow Pro
