Hi, I'm wondering is it possible to restrict certain catagories to registered users only on my website? Ideally to restrict it to only users who are over 18 from what they've put in as their date of birth when registering.

There's nothing in the core functionality to support this. But you could add some custom code in the includes/modules/pages/index/main_template_vars.php file to check whether somebody was logged in and if so their age, and then let them into the category or direct them to a custom template that explains why they have been blocked and offers alternatives.

And in the end, almost nothing you do can prevent one that really wants to see your restricted areas from seeing it.

Children today are far ahead of what we were when.
You would need to harden this somewhat to include capturing IP (already there), checking it against any other new signup and maybe extend to checking on subsequest visits....albeit, with most using dynamic IP's this could be a bad thing...
