Can't log into Admin after new install

I just installed my 4th install of zencart. running it successfully on 3 other servers.

Everything seemed to go well with the v1.3.8a version of zencart install

After the install, everything was fine.

I went to the /admin page and typed in my user name and password.

it simply reloads the admin login page.


at first I thought maybe I typed in the wrong username and password. But when I put in the wrong username and PW, zencart says "You entered the wrong username or password". When I type the correct username and PW it just reloads the login page. No error message or anything.

per that page I did the following:


Renamed .htaccess to .htaccess.old- didn't work
Cleared my browser cache. - didn't work. (i can log into my other sites zencart admins)
I don't have SSL turned on in zencart
My username and PW arent forgotten.


I've also tried using firefox and IE

Look for a space before the <?php at the top of the page or a space at the end of the page ?>

When you typed your username and password are you sure there are single quotes around them EX: 'pleasework'

The very first part of the file is

<?php
/**
* @package Configuration Settings circa 1.3.8
* @copyright

and the very end of the file is

// EOF

so no spaces.


Not sure what you mean about the single quotes for the login, unless yer talking about mysql login info. then yes. and I've double checked that part.

I compared the non-working servers configure with a working server. Other than mysql info, HTTP_SERVER type defines, and directory locations, they seem to be identical.

I did have a .htaccess in my servers root. I tried renaming that just in case it would affect the cart. no luck there either.

in my cookies, it's just 1 and is set.

You might try having your password resent but I do believe you will still have the same problem.

Every now and then I've run into this same problem. As it happens on a fresh install my solution has been to delete the Tables (using phpMyAdmin) and reinstall.

I've considered reinstalling, but the site is running php 4.3.2 and phpmyadmin wants 5.2

No problem, just delete the database. More work as you then have to recreate it but it's an option.

Always handy to know 6 ways of getting the same results. So far I've listed two.

the DB is being used by other apps so deleting DB isnt an option. so really my only choice I could think of would be to write some php script to run sql and drop the tables or find some old version of phpmyadmin. was hoping to find a fix here before I did that.
