Weight of an item @.25 pounds but on check out 3.25

I have an item that its weight is .25 pounds, but when i go to check out, it adds 3 lbs on to my item, any ideas on this?

I am using United Parcel Service shipping.

Admin> Configuration> Shipping and Packaging> Tare weight. See the FAQs for more details - look for "3 pounds"

how would i enter it, if my packaging weight is like 8oz? the only options is a % or by lbs

I believe you would want to enter 0:5

Since 8OZ = 1/2LB, 0:5 should designate that it is half a pound.

If all your products are weighed in ounces, you can change lbs to ozs. Use admin>tools>developers tool kit to find were lb and lbs are defined. If you check the Holzheimer's site in my sig, all the product weights are ounces.
