    Making Attributes Manditory?

Hi there i'm using version 1.2.6 (i believe)

Basically i have set the price of a product to zero and then set the atributes up as base prices i.e. not adding to a product price. The problem is if they do not select an attribute the customer only gets charged for the shipping. So my question is is ther any way to make the attributes manditory, so that the customer cannot add to cart without slecting an attribute.

    Regards

In the attributes controller there is a selection for "Default Attribute
to be Marked Selected:" that would pre-select what you define as default.

If that will do what you want???

The other addition to this is the Display Only Attribute ...

A Display Only Attribute is used when you have many choices on an Attribute such as ...

    Option Name: Size
Option Values: Small, Medium, Large, XX-Large

You do not want someone to "accidentally" order a Small ...

So you can make a Display Only Attribute and you might make it a dropdown which reads:

    Option Name: Size
    Option Values:

Select from below ... (make it read whatever and set as Default, Display Only, Sort Order 0)
    XX-Small Sort Order 10
    Small Sort Order 20
    Medium Sort Order 30
    Large Sort Order 40
    XX-Large Sort Order 50

Now if they try to add this to the cart, because it is marked Default and Display Only they will receive an error to make a proper selection ...

    G'day,

That solution works fine for making attributes of type 'Dropdown' manditory, but it doesn't work for those of type 'Radio'.

The "please select one' options is displayed with a radio button option, and if nothing is selected, it still gets added to the shopping cart.

How is it done for radio buttons?

    Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Works on everything except checkboxes ... and TEXT has a required setting ...

    Color:
() Pick a color below (default, display only, sort order 0)
    () Red (sort order 10)
    () Green (sort order 20)
    () Yellow (sort order 30)

If the Pick a color below is marked and you hit add to cart you are told no way ...

    Re: Making Attributes Manditory

Ok thanks ajeh thats solves the problem one way but......isn't there always a but.

I have 2 name options for 1 artwork that can be printed onto canvas and a 2rtwaork that can be downloaded on the same peice of artwork these then have various value options is there anyway round this beacsue i assume if you set both dropdown boxes as you mentioned above even if you had selected an option in one drop down box and not the other it would still kick up an error?

Thanks for your advice on this.

You might need to set those up as two separate products, canvas and digital, with their respective attributes.
There is a cross-sell mod that you could use to link the two products so when one is open the other shows as a recommended alternate.

If I got this correct you might also be able to set different attribute names with values for the different types of products.

This would normally be used for things like size & color but might be able to combine into something like:

    original
    Print
    download

Where the attribute name is 'type' (or another title you like better) and the attribute values are the original, print, & download.

    You might experiment with this.

This would work fine, but has the drawback of either not being able to require a sub-selection relevant to the chosen type, or requiring sub-selections for both types, even the one not chosen.
