Default a MAMP vs email question

the book uses XAMPP as a program to set up local server. I am using MAMP and when iit comes to creating test email accounts i can't get any further because there is not a mercury field in the control panel.
At this stage i am not ready to use a remote server and it would be great if i could just experiment with the local one but i understand that i need this email functionality to work to complete the whole shopping trip.
Any suggestion, a thread maybe i missed? Will need more than a lifetime to go through them all but hey i bookmark the ones i know i will need so thanks

    Default Re: a MAMP question

If you are just testing your store in an offline manner on your local mac, just go into your store's email settings and turn off the mail sending feature.
You can go and test the email part later when you put the store on a live server.

Otherwise you're going to need to either install and configure (and secure) your own mailserver software, or find a remote server to relay from.
