Default Removing User Registration, But Still Collecting Email Addresses

    I am on ZenCart 1.3.8a.

Is there a way to remove the user registration process entirely? I feel like it gets in the way of the user experience, and is mostly unnecessary for me. However, I'd still like to capture email address for newsletter purposes.

Also, if a user registers and specifies their mailing address, is that information used by the Authorize.net payment gateway, or would they then have to duplicate the information when they check out?

The customer supplies their address information upon registration. They have the option of changing that information during checkout, and then when payment is submitted, the chosen address information is used as part of the payment transaction. The customer only has to enter the information at registration. After that they only ever need their password to re-use their account information.
