Products do not display in sort order I want

This is weird.
I usually do not set sort order for products in a category, just leave the default of 0 and let them sort alphabetically.
For a certain cat I need to display in a different sort order, so I start sorting them with intervals of 5: 0, 5, 10, etc.
They display OK in the admin side, and also when I go into the category listing I see products displayed according to sort order, not alphabetically.
But...when I started displaying the first product in the browser and go next, next, they display alphabetically!
The admin is set to
Categories/Product Display Order: Products Sort Order, Products Name
There is no other valid option.
I think I need to modify a certain file in the Admin, to eliminate ", Products Name".
I did look at it with different browsers, restarted comp. to eliminate possibility of something in cache messing it up.

OK, I looked.
I see that this is possible site-wide by modifying includes\index_filters\default_filter.php
This is not what I need, I just need to display a certain category according to its sort order.
It does this OK in the admin side and also when looking at the product listing.
As I said before, it doesn't work when going prev - next in the cat.
I suppose this "iterates through an array", to use programmer's jargon.
Does Zen Cart have the ability to display products according to sort order, only for a selected category?

It is well-known that (in v1.x) the previous/next uses a different sort order than what the user selects in the product listing.
There are some admin settings that control the prev/next sort order.
All the functionality applies to the entire store universally.

What you've experienced is the way it's written. If you want to change it, whether universally, or for just one category, feel free to alter the code accordingly.

I have already been there.
Unfortunately, it is not what I am looking for.

#6 is exactly what I need because cats. that do have a sort order (for special reasons) will display in that previous - next order, whereas cats. that don't simply display alphabetically.
