    Default Using web based images not on my server.

    Hello Everyone,

    Newbie question...

    Is there a way to use web based images with a web address not associated with my server? For example, if my server images were located in: www.myserver.com/images/abc.jpg - Is there a way to have the image be served from another server, say: www.anotherserver.com/images/abc.jpg?

    My main distributor only feeds me URL's to the images for each product.

    Thank you in advance...

    John

    I uploaded URL's into Zen Cart and now the image properties show the following example of image location...

    'http://www.myserver.com/images/http://www.anotherserver.com/images/abc.jpg

    Please help. Thanks!

    Just paste the url into the addy bar, then download the image to your desktop, then upload it to zencart.

    I am not sure if I am creating more problems or not, but I solved my immediate problem by editing the following file:

    public_html/includes/configure.php

    I changed the following line:

    define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', 'images/');

    To the following:

    define('DIR_WS_IMAGES', ' ');

    I understand that this will force me to always have the full URL to the image whether the image is on my server or an external server.

    All of the images I am linking to are fully licensed to me for my use. No copyright violations here!

    You will end up having problems with your images if you do that. It's not designed to host images externally.

    It would be useful if you could explain yourself a little more...what problems are you referring to? I cannot think of any issues other than remembering to provide the entire URL to both the local server as well as the remote server URL. Please give me specifics to support your statement...then I will make an informed decision as to whether I should keep my code change...thanks!

    Umm... DrByte wrote the code? And therefore knows what he's talking about? I understand wanting to know what the problems would be. For one thing, any of these images that appear anywhere on a secure page will cause warnings in customers' browsers.

    Medium and large images, and additional product images, may not function, as the remote images are unlikely to follow Zen Cart's naming conventions and folder locations.

    Thank you for your insight...it makes sense...I certainly did not want to insult DrByte. I just wanted to know the pitfalls. Thanks!
