red flag Creating Zen Cart Store, Then Change Domain Name

Ok everybody who has Zen Cart experience under your belt, I have a question:

Can I create a Zen Cart Store in a domain name to build, then transfer the store into another domain name?

Here's whats going on: We currently run and operate an online store that we built using one of those online deals (Exactwebsites.com) We do very well with the online store, however, we want to use Zen Cart as the store for many different reasons such as editing the layout, etc.

Right now, we cannot transfer the current domain because of it being live and working and don't want to loose any sales. I want to build a Zen Cart store under another domain name I have, then transfer the store to the domain the store we use now.

Can this be done?? All domain names will be with the same hosting company then.

YES, you can create the store anywhere and later relocate it as long as the hosting server meets the requirements....
You could/should create it in a folder on the same domain name as where it will eventually reside for ease - but it can be anywhere

ok. HostGator will be hosting this site and they have Fantasico that automatically installs Zen-Cart. Here is what it calls for when setting up Zen Cart:

    Install Zen Cart (1/3)

    Installation location

Install on domain: (This is where I will enter the domain name I will use to build the site, not actual domain name I will end up using)
    Install in directory

Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).
Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only). This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created!

Admin access data - Administrator-username (you need this to enter the protected admin area)

Password (you need this to enter the protected admin area)

    Base configuration

Site name: Are you referring to name the site name here?
    Admin e-mail (your email address)

    Thanks!

I cannot use the domain name I will be using because it is a live site and not on this hosting server until I have the site built using Zen Cart. I will definitely check out the articles you posted.

    Thanks!

There should be no reason that you can not install it in a folder in the same domain name....
    Just as recommended if upgrading

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that I was going to transfer the store into a NEW account not in my account. It will still be with HostGator, yet a new, seperate account. I want to transfer the store I build in my account into a new account once I have the store finished. Sorry for the confusion.

    Thanks!

Can your host give you direct access via IP to that new account's space? If so, then build your new store there using the IP address instead of a domain name. Then, when you're ready to switch, just point your domain name server to the new IP.
