Need help in setting up newsletter subscribe link

I have read through many posts and cannot find an answer to my question. I already have the setting activated for customers to click newsletters as they are signing up as a customer. But what I am looking for (see image below please) is the way to set up a way for them to elect to sign up from the home page. I've scoured my "Zen Dummies" book and cannot find an answer there either. Any help would be sooooooo appreciated.
Please keep in mind, I am a DUH when it comes to these things, so please keep it as simple as possible.

I found this on another ZenCart e-commerce site, and this is what I am looking for. This is installed on the home page, right side bar.

By default only persons who create an account can select to be on your newsletter list.
What you are seeing elsewhere is a 3rd party module that you can get in the downloads area and install
