    Idea or Suggestion Downloading Errors

Hi, I'm using the latest install of Zen Cart. 3.1.8a with the patch installed and I have been building my cart and adding mods for about a week now. I added a few Downloadable products to the cart system, read all the info about doing so, set my downloads to redirect, (On a Linux Apache Server at PowWeb) and in general thought I had everything setup correctly. I have some free downloads so I gave it a go and I keep getting the error message400 Bad Request error. I've read what I could about the error and tried a few things as suggested such as temporarily disabling htaccess but that didn't solve the problem either. I run this site outside of the root of the public folders with my host as I have several web sites hosted on the same account. I don't know whether that would create any sort of an issue but I thought I'd mention it because I thought it might. I disabled the redirect for the download and when I did I got the standard error message that says that there is no such web page (error 404). I've seen this same problem and questions to that effect on several pages across the internet but other than giving someone a link to the basic information on installing Zen Cart nobody really seems to have a definitive solution (or sets of solutions) for this particular problem. I've been working with PC's for over 30 years and have used just about every sort of php system out there so I'm not entirely an idiot when it comes to problems like this. Heaven only help the newbies that might be having this same issue. So, is there anyone out there who has had a problem like this and if so what is the tweak needed to fix it.

Like I stated above.. I am using

    Zen Cart Version 3.1.8a

Hosted On: Linux Apache Server (by the way Zen Cart is an auto install program on PowWeb.com, meaning that you can have PowWeb install Zen Cart automatically from the ops panel - you still have to set it up but the auto install feature is nice.)

Browser: I generally use Internet Explorer 7 but I tried the download process in Mozilla, Firefox and Safari. It failed in all 4 so I don't believe it is a browser issue.

I'm sure that if someone could help me by posting the most common issues in setting up Downloads in Zen Cart the information would help many others. I couldn't even find anything in this forum about the error 404 - Bad Request.

To keep some of you from sending me links to pages I've already filtered through here is the information I've already reviewed. Also another good set of links for those who are having similar issues.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps a thread to this specific issue is in order because I was able to find no less that 30 different web sites where something was posted regarding this issue concerning Zen Cart. However, none of them seemed to have any definitive answers.

    Thanks in Advance

I searched the forum for 'bad request' and got a bunch of threads returned. The gist of most of them seems to be that this can be a hosting issue, including this one:

    email error Re: Downloading Errors

Thanks Steve, I'll look at the link and get back with an answer. I too thought it could be a hosting issue but since my host is Powweb and they seem to push Zen Cart I can hardly believe that they don't have their server setup correctly to run Zen Cart.

One bit of good information that I had overlooked that was in your link was to check the error log for more details on the error. Sorry - Senior moments happen more freqently with time.

I checked with my host and it seems that having digital downloads on my host while using Zen Cart is a no-no.. They offer Zen Cart as a server install but don't permit digital product downloads with Zen Cart because of the redirect issue and htaccess issue. If you have a host like this - good luck using Zen Cart... They suggested several other cart systems - most everything but Zen Cart. What do I do with the week and a half I spent setting up Zen Cart? Sh☺σö£.. I wish there was a list of hosts not to use with Zen Cart - and a list of host that can use Zen Cart.

Go with one of the hosts found in the Certified Hosts link at the top of this page and you should be free from not just your current download problem but most other unforeseen problems as well.
