    Default Online payments concerrns

I'm starting to worry about my complete lack of knowledge with online payment protocols and tried doing some Googling but didn't come up with anything that overly helped. Is there a 'walkthrough' somewhere of using NOT PayPal that might put some of my fears to rest?

I've been asked to rebuild an existing shop which already has payment facilities, and I have used zencart before - but only as an 'online showcase' where most sales have been over the phone. I did set up PayPal on that older site, which works okay, but this new site takes cards direct. I bought the zencart book but that again looks like its designed for payment gateways like PayPal and Google checkout, etc.

Please help, I'm getting rather concerned

The major credit card payment processors all work pretty much the same way. Your first stop should be with the processor the site is using now. Obviously, it's one that has a Zencart module available.

If you have specific questions, post here again.

Who is it? You can go to Admin - Modules - Payment to see what is activated.

They're not using zencart, and its on a different domain now. They've fell out with the person who built them that and I've got them a new domain name to start working with, but they don't remember anything about what their previous designer told them he'd done to initiate payments.

Does their previous developer own the domain name their site is on now? If they have traffic/sales/recognition, I would think they should stick with that domain for the live site (they can host it and you can develop anywhere they want)... unless the new domain name is better for them, in which case you should set up a 301 redirect from the old to the new to keep search engine rankings.

They don't, hence *why* they've fell out with... :)

What payment gateway do you want to use? If it is one of the ones built into ZC, it will be trivial; if there is an existing mod for it in Free Addons, there should be directions there or in the mod's support thread; if you want something else, it will probably require advanced programming knowledge to write an interface.
