Discount coupon.....how do I give something for free with purchace?

Using 1.3.8 and trying to figure out how to assign a discount code to give a free product with the purchase of a product...Is this possible? In the discount coupon admin it wants me to put in a dollar value or percentage value.

If you're willing to not have a coupon involved, you can use Better Together from the free software add-ons to do buy <X> get <Y> free.

In the discount coupon admin it seems to require a dollar amount or percentage value for the value of the coupon.....If you wanted to give an item for free what value would you put there?
