Adding a custom field to a product

Hello,

I'm new to Zen Cart and PHP, and using version 1.3.8 of Zen Cart. My background is that I'm okay in programming when it's not web-based. I'm still finding my grounding in PHP, though.

I have a client that would like to add the ability to add a custom attribute to the product (beef jerky) such that instead of having three products for (mild, medium, and hot) settings, there is a radio button designating the spiciness of the jerky. He wants this to carry through to the checkout process.

I looked through the forum preliminarily and FAQs and didn't see an answer directly to this, so I'm sorry if a similar question has been posted.

You can add a custom field to the product but it is much easier to use an attribute.
