Installation problem - Can't get into the admin

I tried what was stated and now can not get xampp to run. I should not have done that because I program in .NET and php and I am about to take some more testing in .NET. I need to get XAMPP back up and running, so I will see if installing the lastest version will work. I need to get Zen Cart work for a site I am doing for a client. If I continue to have problems with the zen cart admin then I will still need assistance on this.

I re-installed XAMMP the latest version, now I can not get into the store, just get a blank page and for the admin I am getting the following:

and

The error has something to do with the following:

if (!ereg('^[0-9]', $key)) {
$this->fields[$key] = $value;

My apache and mysql are both runing.

The latest version of XAMPP runs PHP 5.3 which is incompatible with a default Zen Cart 1.3.8a installation.

To make your Zen Cart installation work with PHP 5.3, follow this thread.

Btw, when you indicated that you had problems running XAMPP after making the changes. It doesn't seem to be a problem with Zen Cart. More likely it indicates a configuration conflict on your system; probably with the IIS. You might thus want to start your troubleshooting by looking into that area instead.

You'll need to apply the PHP 5.3 patch mentioned above.
If, after applying that patch, you still have errors, you'll need to include them in your next "I can't" reply.

I installed the patch, read the directions, deleted my old install even through no changes had been made and it still will not let in into the admin area. I can get into the store, but not the admin.

I assume you're using IE8? What happens if you click the Compatibility Mode button in IE8? Just in case that's causing some not-yet-discovered issue?

Also, you're saying "can't get into the admin". Does that mean you can't access the login page? or you can't login after entering your username and password?
What happens if you point your browser to your /admin/login.php page directly?

I never can get to the login page. I know the username and password. Also how do I get into the compability for IE8 and that is what I am using.
