Default Updating UK Vat rise to 17.5%

    HI Everyone,

In the UK, if you wish to keep your retail pricing the same, you are going to have to modify the pricing in zencart to do this.

Run the statement below on your db (after making many backups, and of course at your own risk!)

    update products set products_price = products_price*0.978723404255, products_price_sorter = products_price_sorter*0.978723404255

Then adjust the sales tax amount to 17.5% under the admin/location/tax rates

If you're just going to rise your pricing, then all you have to do is alter the sales tax amount under the admin.

Hope this helps some people out

    Hi Calljj

Thanks for this, I was going to update all our products one by 1. Lucky for me that is less than 50 products but it was still going to take time.

    Many thanks

I should point out that Ajeh does NOT recommend updating the Products Price Sorter in this way - I can't recall the location of the post, but the message was to update the products_price and then use admin > tools > store manager > update Products Price Sorter.

And don't forget about products priced by attributes.

    Just some info for people.

I have now done this on my store. The calculation is spot on, I've had to manually change 3 prices in my catalog as they ended up being 59.9499 and I've put it to 59.95 again.

Then following Ryk's advice I have manually updated the Products Price Sorter in Admin > Tools > Store Manager > Update Products Price Sorter.

    Happy New Year

The purpose of the products_price_sorter is for the display sort order of products by price so that additional calculations do not have to take part in the Catalog ...

Whether or not those prices are "rounded" does not really matter ... what matters is the order of the products when sorted by price ...

The Updater in the Store Manager for the Products Price Sorter is built based on the Master Categories ID and then calculates all of the prices to match those that would be "displayed" on the Catalog ...

This is automatically done when Products are edited ...

Usually, the only time this needs to be run is when Products are Imported as the products_price_sorter is usually wrong ...

NOTE: always backup before running the Update Products Price Sorter ...

NOTE: if you do NOT have master_categories_id set on your Products then this could run incorrectly ...

NOTE: if you use Linked Products, running the Update Master Categories ID will select the "first" Product found in the products_to_categories table and this may not be the correct categories_id to base the master_categories_id on ...

I just updated over 100 products on my site with it and worked fine.
not sure why you'd have to run price sorter, as no change in the sorting going on. just the application of taxation.

This didn't appear to run from the Zen Cart Admin (Tools > Install SQL Patches). So I used phpMyAdmin instead.

All appears to be working well.

Many thanks for sharing this with us.

    Regards,

    Alex

Why not just use the tax classes and rates?

We did, but in order to maintain the gross prices you will need to run Calljj's script. This adjusts the net prices to ensure the gross prices remain the same after the 2.5% increase in VAT.

Alex, I had lowered prices and needed to show the "real" price so just did the change (though do need to round some of the resulting prices to "nice" amounts). I guess we're all going to handle this in different ways.
    cheers
