need compulsory field(s) on the "Shopping Cart" page

Hi all

I need compulsory field(s) on the "Shopping Cart" page for certain (but not all) categories.

Example:

Category 68 has restricted products.

If the customer's shopping cart contains one or more items of say master category 68, then a field should show up below the shopping cart contents - heading of the field something like "you must complete this field before you can checkout your items".

The customer will need to complete this compulsory field before they can proceed to the next page. In case the customer does not complete the field then they should see an alert like "your cart contains restricted items - please provide the required details before proceeding" -- or something similar.

If a customer has to enter some data to order a product, you should add a text attribute to the product that is manditory before it can be added to the shopping cart. See the tutorial for text attributes.

thought about that - however, it is not one single product which is affected but whole categories containing "a heap" of products.

Does that mean this information is required for the order not the product(s) themselves? You can make the Special instructions for the order a manditory field. That is usually the place where customers can enter special instructions for the order.

That's right.

If the order contains one or more products from a restricted category, then - and only then - the Special Instructions field is to appear as a mandatory field before the customer can hit the checkout button.

If the order contains no restricted products then they may proceed to the next page - no questions asked. If they want to enter any comments on the next page then that's fine - but not compulsory.

I have sort of an idea about the logical flow but I am not a php coder by all means.

Managed to add the desired field on the Shopping Cart page.

Still can't get my head around how to implement my conditions.

Any ideas anyone?
