Create New Product Type and assign custom fileds to it?

Hello,

Recently I have started my first Zen cart Car shop, which is made od of three top level categories:

1. Selling Cars
2. Spare parts (Which is restricted to one of default Product Types: "Product - Free Shipping")
3. Additional spare parts (*same as spare parts(2)*)

I still didnt restrict category "Selling Cars" to any Product type and main reason it because products in this category must have CUSTOM fields, for example:

- Type of engine
- length
- width
- height
- number of seats
- car color
- number of doors
- etc

so I need help on how to create New Product Type and assign custom fileds to it?

p.s. I searched the forum befor posting new thread but I didnt managed to find any thread that could help me solve me problem

Paul Hailey created a sophisticated "BOOK Product Type" and that module is available HERE.

(Naturally, the module itself will not suit the Auto Industry, but if you pick through it, there may be many pointers as to how the job needs to be done)

Dont get me wrong, Paul Haileys solutions is OK, but zipped file I have downloaded from link in your post is about 10MB size (after extracting) and consists about 1680 files and tons of readme files All I want is just to add 10-15 extra fields in one of the Product type categories, thats all.

If it is too much trouble to create Product type, it wont be problem for me to use/edit one of existing (default) Product types for example "Product - Free Shipping", BUT I need little help on how to add some additional/extra fields ( for example: Type of engine, length, width, height etc) to this category?

Any help is appreciated

huhI searched through google some kind of tutorial for creating custom product type (p.t.) also I searched zen cart forum but I just cant find any article/thread that describes step by step ho to create custom p.t. with custom fields?

The closest thing I found is this article:

I am using Zen Cart for the first time I and I relly like it because I achieved exactly what I wanted with this software until now

I need to solve this fast, so I could finish shop/catalog for my client, so any help or suggestion is appreciated and THANKS in advance

Basic knowledge of PHP and CSS would greatly improve your "solvevabilty"
