Default Cannot access my admin site

I havn't been able to access my admin site at all today and keep getting the following error:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

I had my web host restore a backup copy of the website yesterday as I was getting the 404 error which seemed to fix things but now the admin site won't work.

Would anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

    Thanks
    Anna

I did a search of similar posts before this but they didn't help.

    log into FTP
check your config files are correct
    check your admin folder name
and if they are all correct, click the BIG BLUE LINK under concerned about hack attempts etc
i may not know how yet, but i soon will....i hope :)

I doubt that it is a coincidence that your inability to access /admin/ and the backup are related in some way.

    How old was the backup?
    Was the backup 'valid'?
Have you changed the name of the /admin/ directory at all? (especially since the backup was made)
Are you using http or https/ssl ?

With so little information to work with, plus the fact that restoring from a backup is considered a 'major' change with lot of possible things to go wrong, it is going to be hard for us to diagnose this one.

    Cheers

    Hi,

    How old was the backup?

It was only 5-6 days old.

    Was the backup 'valid'?

Not sure what you mean by valid. But I'm sure my web host would have said something if there was something "not right" with it.

Have you changed the name of the /admin/ directory at all? (especially since the backup was made)

    No, no changes were made.

Are you using http or https/ssl ?

    I'm pretty sure Http.

The hosting company are looking into but they are pretty slack to be honest in getting back to me.

like i said, log into FTP, check config files
check what your admin directory is named
and make sure it all clicks together with your configure files
