Security Patches confusing

Hi I am just about to upload a fresh copy of Zen Cart v 1.3.8a to my server and thought Id read the security announcements. Now i am really confused. I have to edit the php files, something about merging files and so on. Can anyone please explain this to me in laymans terms. I have a little php knowledge and i mean little and i know html and css. Thanks

If your copy of 1.3.8a was downloaded from this site only recently then you may not have to worry about installing security patches.

However, don't forget to change the name of your admin.

You DO have to install the security patches. Get a copy of Beyond Compare or WinMerge to help you compare the contents of the 1.3.8a files and those included with the security patches. They're not all that difficult to install.

My sincere apologies!!!!!!!!

Mixed it up with my copy of 1.3.8.a which I installed late Dec 2009 from my host's library. When I checked for patches I found that it was fully patched.
