list sub catagories

Is there a way to just list the sub categories? I have a layout that will have the main categories and then under that show the sub categories on the main page. I do not want to use the sidebox and I would like to have complete control over how it is displayed on the page.

Example would be something like this:

Category 1
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3
</div>

Category 2
Product 1
Product 2
Product 3
</div>

If not used - what is there to control?

These are ul/li lists - There is a 3rd party module "better categories" that you can use, look at and modify, or just get direction for what you want to do

I do not want a sidebox. I want to have the categories and sub categories but not in side boxes, I want to be able to show them as stated.

Am I not making it clear? What I need to do is separate the categories into their own div tags with their sub categories under them.

Looking through the code I have found that I can list out the categories using $box_categories_array, so now all I need is the sub categories array name.
