After Installation Problems

I've just installed the latest version of Zen Cart and am getting a blank page on my shop front and this message on my admin window:
[17-Feb-2010 19:50:02] PHP Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in /customers/ex-military.org/ex-military.org/httpd.www/shop/includes/classes/db/mysql/query_factory.php on line 177

Any ideas please? All help gratefully received and acknowledged.

P.S: I have reset my configure files to 444 and removed the install folder from the picture.

I have the same problem, a blank screen after installing 1.3.8 - where's the patch?

Hi all, I recently installed 1.3.8a and have been trying to configure my site for new items and also deleting unneeded items. So I at first tried to only delete items which were not linked and I was able to delete one or two ok, but then I was deleting what I thought was an item and all of a sudden the whole list of categories/products abd the folders for the 100 or so products disappeared. No products are showing, no categories. Anybody have some instruction as to what to do at this point?
