How do I make subcats not show on center page?

How do I make subcats not show up on the right aka center of the page?
I still need them in the main category listing on the left, just not on the main pages.
This is in v1.38

Categories - Always Show on Main Page
Main Page - Opens with Category

Check if you have enabled these

Both are set to off.
