    Default Automatic discounting ?

    Hey guys,

Is there a way to have zen cart automatically apply a discount to every customer that signs up for an account ?

So the website by default shows one price, but as soon as you register as a customer, whether you buy something or not, it can show another price ?

This should be a % based discount that applies to all products.

There probably is a way. If you look inside functions_prices.php to see how the code is handling pricing, you may be able to add a conditional (or conditionals) based on whether a person is logged in, that renders displayed prices at a discounted value to that stored in the database.

You will notice that this file is nearly 1400 lines of code - indicative of the huge array of price variables that need to be generated.

You may need to add your conditional to a large number of functional parameters.

    Good luck...

(PS: Don't "BUMP" posts on this forum please... it is considered uncouth).

Thats exactly why I wondered whether it would be possible to leverage existing code, such as the sales and discounts system already in place.
I'll start with the file you mentioned and see what I can dig up.

Note that unless you've modded the system, EVERYONE has to create a customer account in order to checkout. So might it not be better to simply use the built in sale system and put everything on sale?

If I put everything on sale tho, customers who haven't got an account, will also see the sale prices ?
As for 'requiring' a customer account, that shouldn't happen, but I can see that if they checkout and only create an account at that point, will they then suddenly get a discount they didn't expect ?
