Default php files won't execute in admin folder (500 server error)

This is really weird. After completing the install (3 times) everything seems to work EXCEPT that I can not execute PHP files in the admin folder.

I created test.htm and test.php files to verify this and I can put them in ANY folder as long as I stay out of the admin folder. In the admin folder, test.htm works fine but test.php fails (500 server error).

I tried adding "AddHandler x-httpd-php .php" to the .htaccess file in that folder and server error went away, but the files now try to "download" rather than execute.

    My question is ... WTF?

Make sure first of all that all files have permissions of 644 (except for the two configure.php files which should be either 644, 444 or 400). On some servers if you give files permissions of 777 then this will result in "500 - Internal Server" errors.

    Thanks for the response.

Yes. I thought of that and made sure that everything (except configs) were 644.

Actually, I should have mentioned, that was the last thing I tried.

I'm wondering if there is some other .htaccess directive I should be using.

Well, that WAS thw wrong directive to use in .htaccess

The correct one appears to be "options +ExecCGI" which allowed the login page to show, and I could request the password be reset by having the new one emailed to me via "resend" which I assume means all is well. However, I can NOT under any circumstances log in and I know I am using the correct username and new password, so I'm done.

I enjoyed playing, but I need to get to work now.

    Thanks.
