Not being notified patched are available

Hi folks, I recall reading in other threads that with a new install of 1.3.8, there is a warning in the admin (providing check for updates is true) that patches or updates are available.

In fact, I recall seeing this (in red no less) on my 1.3.7 sites when 1.3.8 became available.

I just had an opportunity to have to again, start from scratch with a fresh install and begin applying all the patches and bug fixes.

With the code downloaded from SF, and a fresh install, the message in admin says:

"Your version of Zen Cart™ appears to be current."

When I use the "check for updates" tool, I still see the above line.

The version link shows:

Zen Cart 1.3.8a
Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
v1.3.8 [2010-03-15 21:50:33] (Fresh Installation)
v1.3.8 [2010-03-15 21:50:33] (Fresh Installation)

Is there anything (known) that would prevent this test from showing the available updates?

If it makes any dif, the only thing "extra" in my lamp stack is I use the Suhosin patch.

No doubt Dr. I was just trying to figure out what might be wrong with my install. I usually don't see oddities this early in the game. I guess its unimportant now anyway as I've got on with it.
