Default Want to use ZC-shopping cart functionality question

Hi guys, feelin a little lost...

We are building a retail site and are looking for shopping cart that does what we need.

We sell custom-designed picture frames. We have hundreds and hundreds of designs in various sizes.

Let's say "design A" comes in 3x5" and 4x6". When I enter products into the product list I want to enter "design A," "design B," "design C," etc, and not "design A 3x5," "design A 4x6," "design B 3x5," "design B 4x6," etc.

You can see how cumbersome that would be. I want to click a design in my store and it asks me for a size. It bases the price off the size, not the design. Does this make sense?

I suppose another way to describe it would be that the price is not so much based on the product itself, but by conditions that the customer selects (size), because ALL 3x5's are the same price. All 4x6 are the same price.

Thank you in advance for your time and responses.

Firstly... you should STOP building your "retail site" because all the GOOD cart software can't be "unpicked" to weave into an existing html site.

Decide on a eCommerce platform FIRST.

ALL good eCommerce systems become the WHOLE SITE.

Zencart could probably do what you are asking - it depends on how you want to set up the products.

Check out the Attributes for products. The product would be the frame style, and the sizes available in that style would be attributes, each with its own price. The customer would choose their style and then choose which size.

read about Attributes in the Tutorials/FAQ section linked at top of all these pages. Or even better, download and install Zen Cart and try a few experiments. It will definitely do what you want.
