    Default Installing Updates via Godaddy?

I have 1.3.7 installed on a Godaddy shared server and in the "My Applications" section it says Updates Available. But when I navigate to the next page, it give details of which version of Zen Cart I have, but no "Update Now" button or anything like that.

Must I manually download the update from Zen Cart and upload it to my server via FTP?

I'm afraid of overwriting my customized files because I did NOT create and thusly name a custom template when I started this cart (years ago) -- I simply modified the classic (or whichever) template is on deck when you first install Zen Cart by using Dreamweaver and the Admin panel.

    Suggestions?

I am just wondering if -- since I have barely used this cart yet and have only 4 people in my database -- should I just uninstall 1.3.7 and do a clean install of 1.3.8a?

As far as I know you must, because GoDaddy does not provide such service.

It is a situation which meets many ZC users. What I recommend you is to do the following:

    1. Download all files from your host to your computer
    2. Download original ZC installation package with version you are currently using and extract it
    3. Download KDiff3 and do the comparison of files in two directories (one from your host and one from installation package)
    4. Whoala - you see what files you have changed and what code is different :-)

    That's what I would do.

... and I would get out of GoDaddy while you can...

GoDaddy is NOT suitable for a proper zencart store. There are a myriad of issues relating to this host and its refusal to configure servers to accommodate eCommerce (not just ZC), and you will start to experience these difficulties when your store gets busy.

Get a new host, do a NS update for the domain, and load 1.3.8 on the new host.

SEE Certified Hosts link at the top of this page. Camelot is very good and if you speak nicely to Tony, he may even be able to help you migrate and upgrade your existing site...
