Zone Rate Character Limit - Change in Database?

In the tutorial, it says that I can change the character limit from 255 to whatever by doing this in the database.

To define my shipping weight with cost, I'm going to need so much more than 255 since I deal in ounces and not solid units (I know that it doesn't matter whether the unit is an oz, lb, kg, etc) and with those characters, I will only be able to give shipping prices for up to around 4 pounds only.

How do I make it so I can add more than 255 characters in the zone tables?

What version Zen Cart are you using?

Is this a clean install or an upgrade?

The 255 character limit was changed ions ago ...

I did the one click install with my hosting company Dreamhost

Installation was pretty simple, but now I'm facing small little problems. I am changing over from oscommerce to zen cart, I was able to use .35 to define 5oz in the zone shipping on oscommerce, zen cart is full units, so I'm trying to work with it.

I found zen_geo_zone and see that the varchar(255) is that where I would change the value? I tried it and it didn't seem to work.

Zen Cart works in pounds ...

You would use decimals for ounces ...

1 ounce = 0.0625 pounds

5 ounces = 0.3125 pounds

There isn't a 255 character limit ... I am not sure if you have found old documentation or what it is that you think you are limited on ...

yea, the internet is full of outdated information. Unfortunately, the only information that I could find on the subject, happened to be just that.

I tried the decimal thing, and it kept messing things up for me. I just tried it again, and uncannily, it works.
