Updating customer session info

I created an observer which changes entry_zone_id when a customer registers in the shop. This is because I do dot ask the zone from the customer but use zones based on customers zip code. The question is how do I update the customers current session to reflect the entry_zone change I've made? The problem is that because I do not ask the zone the prices are without taxes during that registration session. I do the zone change in the database in my observer code.

So, I changed the notifier my observer uses to NOTIFY_LOGIN_SUCCESS_VIA_CREATE_ACCOUNT and changed $_SESSION['customer_zone_id'] = $zone_id to correspond to the change I've made. Hope this was the right way. At least I got it to work
