Default Upgrading to 1.3.9 - "Thank you for installing Zen Cart ..."

Well I have sat in my chair and at my desk for about 4-5 hours and still can't figure the best solution to do my upgrade..

    I'm not running complex zencart..

    Just have

    Paypal
    Canada post

    Lightbox gallery
    SEO URL
    Google analytics
    google base feeder
    sitempa xml

Well i'm doing what the upgrade instructions tell me to..

But wow they are not fun.. I have upgrade other programs ie, joomla, phpbb3.. and other and i say this is not much fun..

well back to figure out what I messed up.. on my test box..

    I"m just very confused on this zen_new, store_new, zen_backup, zen_orig

AHH TO many dir to work with and do this and that..

    Is there any simpler instructions

What I did so far was

    1. Used winmerge to update my english files and define files
    2. Made a new test139 on server with new DB
    3. copied OLD 1.3.8 site to that test139 folder
    4. then uploaded all the new files and delete all the bad files
    5. did the upgrade
    6. OPPS forgot to remove the payment and shipping mods (AHHH)
    7. I go to my test139 site and my template doesn't work..

and get this error msg.. http://www.horsenpetoutlet.com/test139/

any help.. after this I have 3 more clients to get this working for..

seen as i cocked up my upgrade also you probably want to check what im saying but
    "2.Your /includes/configure.php and/or /admin/includes/configure.php file contains invalid path information and/or invalid database-connection information."

looks like you have bad db info in your configure file. Have you checked that?

I think the majority of the mods will work, the only one that I needed to remove was Ultimate SEO.

Did you restore your original db onto the new db?

Also, as James pointed out you need to reconfigure both the admin and catelog configure.php with the new db name and path to new directory.

Would it be simpler to do this..

I know what MOD's i RUN on my site..

    Could I Just

    1. Get up 1.3.9 on my server in a new DIR
    a. Put up my LIVE DB from 1.3.8
    2. Install all the new MODS
    3. Vola its now up and running.. and test it out.?

Or is that to simple?? or is that what the Instructions really tell me to do? As wow this is overwhelming

    MOD's

Ultimate SEO URLs - new version for 1.3.9
Zen Lightbox - Not sure if there is an upgrade yet?
    Google Analytics -
    Google Base Feeder
    Sitemap XML
Canada Post - New version for 1.3.9
stock_by_attributes - Not sure if upgrade yet?

You won't need to re-install any mods. The DB will be the same as your 1.38 and you have merged all the relevant mod files and template overrides in step 1. It should work, just remove any mods that aren't compatible.
