    Check/verify file permissions.

i'm having the same issue, and i don't think its a permissions issue.

it says in the upgrade doc (and in similar threads on here) to change settings to AllowOverride All in the .htaccess but there's no real instructions on how/where to do that in the .htaccess file for those of us who have never messed with one before.

For instance, the htaccess in the zc_install is full of text but the htaccess in the main directory is blank. Is there clearer instructions on how to do this somewhere on the zencart site? I've been searching and not finding it.

No. It's as simple as typing AllowOverride All into a blank text file, saving it as an ASCII text document, uploading it to the server using FTP, and then renaming it to be .htaccess - but do make sure you're not overwriting an existing .htaccess file.

Be aware that most FTP programs are set to "hide filenames that begin with a period" by default, so you might easily overwrite an existing file without realising until it is too late.
