    Default Database upgrade failed.

When upgrading my database from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9, I get this error:

1253 COLLATION 'latin1_general_ci' is not valid for CHARACTER SET 'utf8'
    in:
[CREATE TABLE counter_history_clean as SELECT * FROM counter_history WHERE 1 GROUP BY startdate COLLATE latin1_general_ci;]

My install is otherwise complete, as far as I can tell.

Is there another way to patch the database?

I am trying to help a guy whos site is very messed up. he had it made though dreamco designs.... So many functions are not working that I decided to upgrade him to the latest zen cart and remake everything correctly. When I went to update the database this is what I received. Every other time I have used the zc_installer to upgrade it has worked perfectly. I'm not sure how to fix the database issue so any help would be very much appreciated.

This is the error I get.

Dreamco designs e-mailed the database in a .zip file I am unable to get cpanel access to try to get my own copy of the database. But if the issue is caused by a setting in php my admin let me know. Thanks in advance

I'm getting the same exact error as listed below. I updated the site from 1.3.9b to 1.3.9d but the database was out of date and shows an error on my homepage as well as my admin page. I tried Upgrading Database again but now it says that it is not needed, yet in Admin it shows 1.3.8 database still. Seems as though this is a more common problem than thought, but I cannot get my site up and running with errors showing on my site.

[CREATE TABLE zen_counter_history_clean as SELECT * FROM zen_counter_history WHERE 1 GROUP BY startdate COLLATE latin1_general_ci;]

Im thinking they forgot to check some of the settings when outputting the file but without access to do it my self I am at a little bit of a loss.

Sounds like we're having the same problem. I wonder if there is a way to change the character set via phpAdmin.
