Default Managing product variation stock levels

Hello all, this is my first post, so please be gentle I have searched, but can't find the answer I need.

Installed Zen Cart last night for the first time. All went well and then spent the next few hours trying to get to grips with the templates and style sheets. So far, so good...

What I couldn't see was how to manage product variation stock levels.

The store I'm working on (this is my wife's business) sells children's shoes, so I want to list each style of shoes and have a drop down box or radio buttons for size 3, size 4 , size 5 etc. This I could do and I could change price if different on certain sizes etc.

However we have different stock qty of each size and need it that the stock levels of each style and size is managed individually. I don't really want to list each shoe multiple times in the different sizes.

Hope I've explained this well enough. Any advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rob.

Your shoe sizes would be done using attributes:

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=57

and to manage the stock separately, you'll need this mod:

    http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=310

I'm having one major problem with stock by attributes.

I'm using version 1.3.9d. I did a clean install because we want to change the store around. I installed 'stock by attributes'.

The problem is that when I have several attributes (such as sizes) for the same product, it allows the customer to order more than I have of a particular size but not of the total amount for the whole product.

    For example:

    I have a t-shirt.
I have it in 2 sizes - med and large
I have 3 med shirts and 4 large ones.
    Total 7 shirts.

It will let me order 5 med shirts even though I only have 3 available. But.....if I try to order 8 of either shirt, I get a message saying the product is out of stock or there isn't enough and I should try to order less.

I used the old version of stock by attributes that was just an add on mod and I didn't have this problem.

How can I get it to recognize the stock for each size of shirt like it did in the old version? It seems to me that this should be a primary reason for having the stock by attributes. What am I missing????

    Thanks in advance.
